Tesla goes all-in on FSD & Artificial Intelligence

Tesla is going all-in on Full Self-Driving and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The company's focus on AI and autonomy took center stage at its Q1 2024 earnings call. The days following the TSLA earnings call revealed that Chinese automakers are also ready to take on autonomy and AI.

During the recent earnings call, Elon Musk emphasized Tesla's brand as an AI and robotics company rather than just another automaker. At least twice during the call, Elon Musk urged people to try FSD Version 12.

"Regarding FSD Version 12, which is the pure AI-based self-driving, if you haven't experienced this, I strongly urge you to try it out. It's profound. And the rate of improvement is rapid," Musk said.

The company has turned on FSD Version 12 for all Tesla cars in North America with cameras and inference computers from Hardware 3 onward. At the time of the TSLA earnings call, more than 300 billion miles were driven with FSD V12 or FSD (Supervised).

In late March, Musk announced that Tesla is no longer AI-training compute-constrained. As a result, Tesla can now dramatically accelerate FSD's improvements. Tesla is already considering other markets to launch FSD (Supervised), including China. The company is just waiting for regulatory approval.

Recently, Tesla received tentative approval for FSD in China, marking a big step for the autonomous software. The EV automaker had to partner with China-based tech giant Baidu to stamp out any security-data concerns.

Baidu and Hyundai also teamed up to develop car connectivity in China. The two Asian companies plan to tackle autonomy and AI development together. Baidu and Hyundai's collaboration hints that Tesla's focus on AI and FSD might be ahead of market trends.

Tesla plans to unveil the Cybercab in August, taking a leap into full autonomy. Cybercab production will probably be a little while off. In the meantime, Tesla will also be producing cheaper electric vehicles (EVs).

While we wait for Tesla's next-gen vehicles, let's take care of the S3XY lineup. Teslarati Marketplace has a few car accessories for Tesla's current lineup. Check out a few below!
