Since the very first day of picking up our MY, somehow something in the car must have gotten spilled on the top of the console lid and it lifted the paint. Since then, we have always put up with the ugly spill mark with the missing paint. I viewed several online options such as wraps, even going so far as to consider replacing the entire console with a used one from ebay. The wraps come in various appearances with simulated wood to match the dashboard or, other colors. Admittedly, I passed on the Carbon Fiber cover the first couple of times I saw it, just couldn't wrap my head around how it would work with the door, adding additional thickness by placing a cover on it and I wasn't sold on the way the handle is covered. My initial thought was that it would be awkward without that chrome handle. When the cover arrived in the mail, I wasted no time in opening it to see just what I purchased. To my surprise the material is thin but rigid with adhesive strips on the side facing the console. Installation was really easy. I thoroughly cleaned the area where the cover pieces would rest with alcohol, completely wiped it dry and proceeded to install the carbon fiber covers. I found installing the cover for the lid is best done by inserting the cover at the bottom toward the front of the vehicle first. It's easier to get your alignment there so when you lay it down (starting from the center) it will fall in to place perfectly. Installation of the second piece around the cup holders is similar only I when from side to side with that one and it worked well for me. I'm reluctant to say it but, yes I was wrong. The lid on the console opens perfectly, I love it! This is a beautiful and exceptional upgrade that will protect your investment and add value to your model Y. Note: I don't own a M3 and cannot comment as to applicability; although, I suspect they are likely the same.
