Tesla Model Y Electric Power Frunk Kit

I have a new 2022 Model Y so I had some problems with installation as my car did not match the instructions. I have a Li-Ion battery instead of a 12v lead battery so I had to figure out where to run power. I also have a Hepa Filter I had to remove which was not in the instructions.And, removing the hood pistons was HORRIBLE!!! But, with the help of YouTube, I figured it all out and it works AWESOME! I love it. But, a little more difficult to install than it originally presumed.

The installation was perfect, as instructed in the video. If the power frunk doesn’t function after installation, update the firmware. Don’t depend on support to get back to you regarding it, I’ve email them multiple times but no reply from them for days.

Since I bought my model y the only time I had open the frunk was to show people what was in there. I always felt it was actually unimpressive to show them something that popped like a normal car hood.
The power frunk kit change that. I now use the frunk more often than I use the rear hatch. It has given me useful space and now something I like to show off.
Installation was not impossible. I did struggle with it a little more than I was expecting but managed to get everything working correctly. One word of warning that the brackets are labeled incorrectly for which side of car they go on. Everything else on an automobile right always assumes the passenger side and left assumes the driver side. The brackets are labeled opposite of that.

I had a hiccup with a faulty control module but I contacted the manufacturer directly and they sent me a new one for free. Now it works like a charm.

This is a well put together and well built kit. It significantly improves the utility of the frunk. My only complaints are the complete lack of instructions and how rough the frunk release is. Other than that, highly satisfied!

YouTube was helpful, but having a troubleshooting section or number to call would be great, rather than relying exclusively on forums.

Having an automatic frunk makes the model Y complete! I always hated opening/closing the frunk because it would leave fingerprints and on hot days it was too hot to touch. Now that it's automatic I'm always using the frunk!

Installation: My dad and I installed the part in my Tesla. The difficult part was removing the old struts and installing the new ones. As all the videos state, replacing the driver side strut was the hardest due to there being limited space. Also my left and right brackets were different from the videos, the left bracket was for the driver side and the right was for the passenger. If your new brackets do not look like the ones in the videos, then place them opposite of what the video tells you. Once the new struts were installed the remaining installation was easy. Cable management is a must otherwise there will be cables everywhere, we basically zip tied all the new cables to existing cables. We watched the DIY install video but I found the one by Frugal Tesla guy to be a better video. This is a 2 man job and it took us about 2-2.5 hours. If you don't want to install it yourself, I was quoted about $250 to get it done.

Installation was straightforward and relatively easy with the aid of videos online. Only gripe would be the inability to adjust beeps beyond just unplugging the speaker if you are annoyed by it

Very convenient to open and close with the touch of the screen, phone or fob key. Drivers side tight spacing but very doable. Videos big help. Wiring not an issue. A must have!!

This is a must have for your model Y. This kit is great and somewhat easy to install. There are no instructions in the box but the videos and if you google the maker then you can find the instructions. Be prepared it will take time. It took me about 3 hours to install and the right side strut was difficult to install do to the small area for my arm. Still worth it. All parts are high quality and look factory installed.

The lack of detailed installation instructions is a problem. You tube videos are not an adequate substitute.

Watch the install vids, get the right tools, and it’ll go OK. I only say OK because there are some tight spaces, and you’ll need to get creative with mounting items and cable management. Watch the tension on the wire for the latch pulling mechanism; it needs to be adjusted to ensure the latch can fully open.
